REFLECTION
Experience:
Typography has been one of the most rewarding modules I've taken. It challenged me creatively while teaching me the technical side of design. Creating a typeface was the hardest task, requiring patience and attention to detail, but it helped me learn about perseverance and precision. I enjoyed working independently, as it allowed me to explore my own ideas. The feedback I received was helpful in improving my work. At first, I wasn't sure what to expect from this module, but I quickly realized it was valuable. Despite challenges like creating typefaces and layouts, Ms. V's support helped me succeed. The hardest task was Exercise 1 on type expressions, where I struggled to come up with unique ideas, but with help, I completed it well. Working on typefaces was also difficult, but brainstorming helped me finish the task. This module has encouraged me to grow both academically and personally.
I appreciated the chance to work independently, which is rare in other modules. The assignments were well spaced, helping me stay organized. The feedback was always useful, allowing me to improve. Overall, I'm happy I took this typography module, as it provided valuable skills for the future.
Observation:
Over the past weeks, I’ve become more aware of typography in everyday life, noticing typefaces on signs, packaging, and ads. Small changes in design can have a big impact. I also found it inspiring to see how my classmates approached the same tasks in different ways, which made me think more creatively about my own work. Initially, I didn’t think typography was that important, but now I realize how much it influences design and communication. Observing my classmates' work has added to my overall learning experience.
Findings:
At first, I saw typography mainly as an art form focused on appearance. But as the module progressed, I learned the technical side, like spacing, alignment, tracking, kerning, and consistency. These details made me think more creatively. I discovered how small changes, such as adjusting letter size or spacing, can significantly impact a design. I also realized how much I enjoy typography and want to explore it further. This module showed me that typography is a balance between art and precision, and the design process refining ideas leads to better results. I'm excited to continue learning about it.
