Sketches
I used 3 different types of pens in order to do the sketches as per requested by the teacher

Fig, 1.3, Sketches (HOGB, hogb) (26/11/2024)

After finishing the HOGB hogb sketch i continued with some other alphabets (oledsnchtig,.!#)

Digitization
Fig, 1.4, Digitization (oledsnchtig,.!#) ( (26/11/2024)

I first did the digitization using brush tool but when i zoom it it looks choppy and empty, so i used shape and curve tool to fill in the empty spot on the alphabets.

Final outcome for the typefaces

Fontlab
After doing the digitization i continue my way to the Fontlab

After some further considerations i was satisfied with the results so saved it as TFF file and name it "scribble" and upload it to my computer to use it

Poster
After doing Fontlab i moved on making the poster

As for research, i do not have any inspirations because i just make up words and put it in together like so.

FEEDBACK

Week 13:
General Feedback: I continue to improve my poster

Specific Feedback: The teacher told me to fix my "g" because it looked off than other alphabets

Week 12:
General Feedback: This week i went to the mac lab to do my font lab project as per suggested by the teacher

Week 11:
General Feedback: This week is the final week to finalize the digitization for the font and get some suggestions regarding the digitized fonts

Week 10:
General Feedback: This week the teacher gave us some more feedback regarding our E-Portofolio and told us to continue to improve the work.

Week 9:
General Feedback: This week we are doing the next step of task 3 which is sketch out the letters (o l e d s n c h t i g , . ! #) and also to digitize the work that we made

Specific Feedback: The teacher said that my designs are not nice it is messy and not good looking, so i decided to redo all of the sketches with the technique that the teacher taught me

Week 8:
Independent Learning week

REFLECTION

Experience:
I’ve noticed a big improvement in my approach compared to previous exercises. I started with sketches to explore different headlines and layouts. Feedback has been very helpful, and the basics I learned earlier made this process easier. Over the past few weeks, this assignment has been both interesting and challenging, and I learned a lot about type design. At first, I thought creating my own typefaces would be easy, but after seeing so many existing ones, it became harder to come up with something new. I also struggled with ideas and using the pen, but through this process, I learned about the different typefaces that exist. Overall, I’m happy with the experiments and designs I’ve created.

Observations:
While working on this task, I observed the characteristics and uniqueness of different typefaces, including those created by my friends. I found that each typeface had its own unique and expressive qualities, which gave me new inspiration. I realized that new ideas often come from discussing with friends. In design, small changes can make a big difference, and it's important to execute ideas because we can't know if they work unless we try.

Findings:
This assignment taught me a lot about typefaces. I learned how to use pen media correctly to create typefaces from scratch, helping me understand their characteristics. We also explored the Fontlab application, which allows us to turn our designs into usable fonts. Analyzing typefaces helped me understand their structure, emphasizing the need for precision and consistency to make clear and attractive designs.

FURTHER READING

For further reading books, I use the book Bringhurst, Robert - The Elements of Typographic Style

Fig, 2.1,  Bringhurst, Robert - The Elements of Typographic Style page 242

Focuses on the relationship between type choices and legibility. It emphasizes the importance of selecting typefaces that improve readability and enhance the clarity of communication, considering factors like spacing, size, and line length. Bringhurst highlights how thoughtful typographic design contributes to a better reading experience.

It emphasizes the importance of organizing type to guide the reader through the content, with attention to headlines, subheadings, and body text. Bringhurst explores how varying font sizes, weights, and styles create a clear visual hierarchy, improving readability and helping readers navigate information more easily.
