Process Work

Week 12: Research, Reference and Sketching
This week's task is to make an animated webcomic with a surrealistic style because of that i use one of Araki Hirohiko creation which is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure style.

After looking for some more inspirations, it's time for me to decide which part of the story that i would turn into the animated webcomic and this is the part that i took

"If you could have another three wishes," said the old man, eyeing him keenly, "would you have them?"

    "I don't know," said the other. "I don't know."

He took the paw, and dangling it between his forefinger and thumb, suddenly threw it upon the fire. White, with a slight cry, stooped down and snatched it off.

"Better let it burn," said the soldier solemnly.

Then it is time for me to sketch out the part

For the transition that i am going to use is  Aspect to Aspect and Subject to Subject and i mixed it a bit to suit the next panel onwards.

Week 13: Digitization
After i am done with my sketches i went straight to digitizing using Illustrator and the brush tool.

After i finish with the panels i continue my way to color the panels, as for the colors i use the mixer brush and use the colors from a DC character called Spawn which have some blood red and ominous green color.

Fig. 2.2. Colors

As for the monkey's paw itself i traced it directly from the movie it self and make it full dark brown and i traced my own hand shaping it so that it looked like i am holding it.

After some adjustments it looked like this when i digitize it.

Fig. 2.4. Digitization

All that is done next is for me to do the rest of the panels

After some more adjustments according to Mr. Hafiz's feedback i put my work into a mood board to summarize my work

Week 14: Cover
This week is where i make the cover for the comic and i only use the box from the movie as the reference.

Fig. 3.1. Reference

After some time thinking, i got the idea of making the box sitting at a table in front of a window and executed it.

Fig. 3.2. Sketch

I used the same color that i use for the panels which came from a DC character called Spawn

Fig. 3.3. Digitization

Of course i put all of this in a mood board to make it more simple and short.

Week 15: Animation
For the animation i use the software called After Effects because i am most familiar with it than any other software. As for the animated part i decided to go for the panel where the guy in red going to the fire to snatch the paw and the part where the guy in blue dangling the paw between his index and thumb.

REFLECTION

This task has opened my eyes to something that i wanted to learn deeper about, i had always had comic reading as part of my hobby but i have never figured that i would actually make one my own and i occurs to me that making comic would be so much fun because i can put my imagination into art work and that is why i would like to know more about this and find my own art style and make my own comics.
